Game director Jeff Kaplan made a new video explaining some of the changes in upcoming season 2. With season 2 the current 0-100 skill rating will be replaced with a 1-5000 rating which is separated into different tiers (bronze, silver, gold etc.). After you reach a new tier, for example “gold”, you can’t be downgraded to “silver” for the current season, even if your rating goes below the necessary gold-rating.
